Ben,

Wow! What can I say??.. My belated condolences to your family and all your friends who mourn your loss Ben. My travels had me away from home for several months and I was wondering why I had not received a reply to my last email old friend, sadly I now know why that was.

It was a real joy to know you Ben even though the time was not long; your sense of humour and your easy going manner was endearing and we became mates. Sail on calm seas Ben you deserve the peace and tranquility of a calm journey.......my life and life's journey was enriched for having you as a friend. I will remember you kindly always mate. My sincere condolences to your wife and daughter; and to the family in Holland.
Good men like you are rare Ben,
your mate
Macca.

Dear family and friends of Ben,
Just today I heard the sad sad news of Ben's passing away. I met Ben when he started to work with Flinter. I was crewmanager there and I got to know Ben as a very friendly, professional and experienced chief engineer. He was always taking pictures and making films on board which he showed me in the office when he was on leave. I also remember the joy I saw in his eyes when he told me he got married in China. For me Ben was very nice seafarer to work with, he knew his rights but also his duties and I specially liked his kind humour.
My thoughts of sympathy go to, off course, his wife and her daughter and to all other loved ones of Ben but also to the crew on board mv Rio Tuira who were with him that sad day.
Hope the good and happy memories can ease the pain of his loss. Best regards, Mariska Bergman-Klein
(I left the Flinter company before Ben so I didn't know he also changed jobs.)

Voor familie en vrienden
We kenden Bernard via Marleen.

Piet
